Violife
Feeling frisky enough to give up dairy but can’t seem to get your head around giving up cheese?! I feel you. And after experimenting with all of the imposters, I’ve found an alternative I don’t hate. I will not lie, nothing replaces cheese (hence why I still indulge every now and then). But Violife does a lovely job of standing in for the real thing. Personally, I keep the slices and shredded options in our fridge at all times. You’ll find them in the vegan or vegetarian sections at your local grocery store.
Banza
If you’re considering going gluten free, even if just on occasion, please understand this: not all gluten free options are created equal. You’ll find plenty of pastas that fall apart as soon as they’ve finished cooking and because of this, it took awhile for me to find a brand that I trust to maintain its structure and taste delicious every time I use it. Just look for the cool orange box in the pasta aisle.
Pro tip: After cooking Banza pasta, rinse it thoroughly in a colander with cold water. This helps drain the starch for taste!
JUST Egg
For reasons unknown, I developed a slight egg allergy at 28 years old. W.T.F.
Luckily, a coworker of mine recommended JUST Egg and I’ve used it nearly every day since. You’ll find these beautiful yellow bottles in the vegan or vegetarian sections at most grocery stores but forewarning, they’re gaining massive popularity and are often sold out.
Bob’s Red Mill
Bob’s Red Mill provides gluten free options for nearly everything under the sun and bonus, they make their products in a dedicated gluten free facility, making it safe for those with even the most sensitive gluten allergies. Bob’s products are displayed in the baking aisle and are my go-to for everything baking and otherwise.
Beyond Meat
As someone who has never understood the fascination with beef, I’m thrilled to see the increased popularity of plant-based meat in grocery stores and restaurants alike. Free from gluten and GMOs, you can feel good about your nutrition as well as generating fewer Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Sup Mother lover?!
Siete
Siete is a family brand whose mission is to create food alternatives for those seeking a low inflammation lifestyle. I generally keep their cassava tortilla chips on hand (because honestly, corn isn’t doing us any favors) and their Cashew Queso in the fridge because… well… it’s queso! Their chips are easy enough to spot at your local grocer but be sure to keep your eyes peeled for their dairy free products.
